Character Formats

When you upload a character, we encourage you to upload a basic text format or character sheet PDF that everyone can download, save, and read - at a minimum. We can't assume that everyone uses GURPS Character Assistant (GCA). That being said, .gca4 files are encouraged, but not required.

This text format should be a text-only version of the character, not a character sheet, in either .txt, .pdf or .rtf format. The character sheet can be .pdf only.

How to make a .pdf

Creating a PDF is becoming easier each passing year. Many operating systems or Word processors allow you to Print or Export as a PDF. Macs allow creation of PDFs from any Print screen.

If your PC doesn't automatically do PDFs, you download a free program called Cute PDF Writer and install it. Then you can, instead of Printing to your printer, Print and create a PDF of the character. Cool huh?

How to make a .txt file

If you use a PC, you can use Word and "Save as..." a .txt file. Using GCA, you "Export..." as a .txt file. Or you can copy and paste the character information into Notepad. Find Notepad by clicking Start, then Accessories, and you'll see Notepad in there. A .txt file is a basic, no frills, text only file that everyone in the world can view.

If you use a Mac you can use Text Editor or another text editor to create a .txt file.
